I've been in a love-hate (mostly, hate) relationship with WAMU for over 3 years. Yes, the checking account is free. BUT...they are apt to hold odd amount of my check from my account for no particular reason, they charge penalties for any overdraft function and every so often I see random "withdrawl" frees in my statement for like $2-3. But I'm stuck because I've been with them for awhile, have diret deposit, well-established checking account, etc.

EXTREMELY slow service, especially during the afternoon hours. It took me almost 30 minutes to get through the teller line JUST to withdraw money. If it wasn't for the fact that I needed larger bills than $20, I would've gone to the ATM outside, but I had no choice. Here I was thinking that it'd actually be faster to get through the teller line during the early afternoon hours since everyone's at work...

It only took a few visits to this place to give it up completely. Now we only go to other branches. This one is dreadful. The line takes forever, the tellers are very rude and don't want to be there, and heaven forbid if you need to speak with someone at one of the desks. You could turn to stone in the time it takes for them to attend to you. The jerks also closed a bunch of our accounts without telling us; their own fucked-up mistake. F'gettaboutit!
With the amount of banking we do, we fully deserve and expect our bankers to be on a friendly, first-name basis with us, and see to it that we're always happy, and at other WaMus we are. We've also been told by numerous WaMu staff that they also avoid the Matilda location like the plague because it sucks ass (my term, but you get the idea). It's the scourge of the local branches. I think if this branch had been my only experience with WaMu, I'd change banks (and no, not to B of A or Wells Fargo -- don't jump from the frying pan into the fire!). I've been told that to set up a safety deposit box, it'd have to be at Matilda, 'cause that's where they are, so I passed. Would rather do without it than go somewhere to be treated badly or ignored.
